Bishop is a relatively recent hero of the Marvel Universe: in fact, his first appearance on Comic books dates back to 1991, in the series of Uncanny X-Men, when my own interest on Comics was already over. And yet, I immediately purchased this wonderful piece when it was released (in 2013), since the overall top-quality of both sculpt and painting was evident and, due to the "analogous" base (depicting the head of a Sentinel) the statue represents the perfect partner of the preciuos Retro version of the Cable statue (which I had in my collection). The piece was sculpted by the Kucharek brothers, with an edition size of 850 pieces. The black hero proudly rests on the forehead of a Sentinel head, with the left leg slightly bent, the right arm characterized by an amazing purple flame at his clenched fist and the left one holding a giant automatic weapon with a perfect metallic appearance. The sculpt of the body is excellent: the physique exhibits a large rib cage, with well defined abdominals and chest, inflated biceps and powerful, very well-proportioned muscles on legs and back. The impact is assured also by the great chromatic contrast of the suit, with a dominant, very dark background blue, the bright yellow of the belt and strips on shoulders (here enriched by pouches in military style) or on the left leg, and the deep red of the scarf which covers a large part of the chest. The attention paid to details is very high! Note the spectacular machine-gun the hero holds with his hand, the tension of muscles of the arms, the perfect shape of the purple flame, raising upward, the long shotgun in the yellow holster at the left side of the back and also the circular belt buckle with the omnipresent "X" logo of the mutants' team. As said, the base is constituted by the ruins of a Sentinel head, resting on an elliptic support; the frontal part is rich of scrathes everywhere and exhibits a wide open mouth and two lifeless eyes; the back, on the contrary, reveals a lot of metallic mechanisms, very well sculpted, which point out the robotical nature of the hero's opponent. Bishop face is a little jewel! In spite of two charming and white eyes, the face has a fine expression of anger and determination, and the somatic traits are faithful to Comics, with a well-finished goatee, a black flowing hair and the typical, long "M" embossed on the right eye. In the last years, the market prices of the Bishop statue have raised significantly, almost approaching the crazy quotations of the Retro Cable, thus confirming the top-level of this collectible and the general, remarkable appreciation of all collectors.
